Printer fails to print

A printer may fail to print for a wide variety of reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps to follow:

Step 1.   Make sure that your printer is turned on and that it is online. (There may be a button or switch marked Online.)

Step 2.   Check both ends of the cable between your computer and printer to verify that the connections are tight.

Step 3.   Make sure that the selected printer matches the printer you are using. To learn how to do this, go to the System Mgmt -> Setup -> Printers -> Standard Printer Types screen.

Step 4.   Check the status of your print job in Windows. Go to Start -> Settings -> Printers. If the print job is stalled, you may be able to restart it by removing a check (ü) from Pause Printing on the Printer menu. Refer to your operating system's documentation for more information.

Step 5.   If you are printing over a network, make sure your network connection is intact. Check with your system administrator for assistance.

Step 6.   If you still cannot print, try to print a file from Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad. If you cannot print with Notepad, the problem is probably affecting all your Windows-based applications. Refer to Technical Support.
